大马时间9月3日凌晨，2009美网第三比赛日的争夺。首秀迎战同样刚刚复出的加斯奎特，结果纳达尔全场占据优势，以6-2、6-2和6-3直落三盘横扫对手获胜，轻松晋级美网第二轮。

全场比赛耗时100分钟，纳达尔轰出7记ACE，而且没有出现双误，发球得分率上高出对手30多个百分点，全场比赛纳达尔兑现了10个破发机会中的5个，而且没有让对手获得任何破发点。纳达尔用一场完胜重新开启了自己的大满贯之旅。
